When the right advice is wrong
Many times in the job search, folks who are well-meaning can send us in a tailspin of emotion or trauma as a result of their good intentions. Whether through networking interactions, mentorships, or unsolicited internet advice, there’s a lot of advice out there about job searching that’s right for a lot of people, but maybe not for you. And that’s okay, because not everything is for everyone. I know while I’ve given advice from the heart, it could have been the wrong advice for the right reasons.
When you’re forging a new path forward, there’s many ways to distill the energy of anticipation and expectation into a solution that works for your intended new career or position, but what will work best is the one that resonates most with you. For someone dealing with burnout as a result of a past career, seeking or sharing advice leaning toward embracing hustle culture and ‘getting back in there’ may not result in a productive interaction. Instead, finding a way to share commonalities and discoveries that align with passions can inspire new thoughts about potential goals and ways forward that feel good to one searching for their next position.
There’s many talking heads, self-proclaimed gurus, and folks selling courses around gaining finding your passion, getting a job you love, and finding a career path that makes sense for your life, but ultimately the advice you’ll hear is what calls to your state of being in this now moment and what it needs to find joy. Listen to that, and consider:
Taking in the advice that works for you and leaving that which doesn’t will help mitigate the energy felt while traversing through a job search. Be kind to yourself and stand firm in what drives you, and the right situation will come to you in time. ♥

Let’s talk about how to talk to boomers about today’s job market
Speaking of bad advice, sometimes telling older generations about your job search can net the sort of advice that may have been relevant to them but doesn’t resonate with the current market. If you’re having to face these conversations, grab a cup of tea and listen to The Financial Diet’s take on money advice:
In your next conversation about why you’re on your 9th job in 10 years, share this video and some of the wisdom gained within. Are there some pieces of advice you’ve learned to lovingly ignore?
If you’ve not heard of American Horror Story: Delicate yet, it’s a new installment in the scary anthology that’s sure to run shivers down your tummy:
Also good: Kim Kardashian’s performance. It’s spooky for all the right reasons.
Celebrate you this week! You’re amazing and worthy of the right next gig.
