Playing the long game
If you’re a few months into your job search as I am, it may feel daunting to approach each day with an open mind. It was easier a few years ago, huh?
With impending bills and other adult responsibilities looming, centering healing and recovery as necessary parts of your career journey becomes a revolutionary act, but one that’s a worthy endeavor. Whether it’s a ‘forced’ or planned long game path that you’re on, taking the time and opportunity to intentionally search for your next career allows you to heal from your last experience and reinvigorate your energy for the experience that meets your social, emotional, and financial needs.
Here’s a few ways to thrive during longer job search periods:
For me, playing the long game has been a practice of understanding, patience, and finding joy in moments that would have otherwise been mixed with the low hum of work responsibilities and deadlines that dance in my thoughts. Taking a moment to reassess what I’d like to give to the world, what feels good to contribute to, and my career goals has helped to recenter my job search and point me in new directions that I would not otherwise feel like I had time to consider.
How are you living and thriving in the long game? Let me know and I’ll share thoughts in the next newsletter.
If your intentional job search has pointed you in the direction of startups, the NEXT Careers program may be a viable option to finding a new path!
The NEXT cohort starts in October — if you’re looking to enter the startup world, the program serves as a great way to dive deep into an intentional job search and learn from industry experts to navigate your path!
Let’s talk about healing from workplace trauma
After leaving a job that you’ve realized was a toxic experience, finding the time and energy to truly heal from the trauma associated with it may be hard, but it’s worth it.
Jennifer Brick shares some ways to recover from toxic workplace trauma that might help:
Acknowledging your trauma and moving through it in a way that helps you process it can help the healing process in a way that’s manageable and sets you up for career success. What are some ways you’ve practiced healing after a toxic job environment?
Renaissance Faire season is upon us, and if you’re planning to visit your local Renaissance Faire, there’s a secret that all share- trinket trading! Festival goers craft and share tiny trinkets of sentimental value while on their journey around the faire, and start collections of trinkets found and traded over the years.
Learn to craft your own trinket, a tiny bound journal to love or trade:
And if you’re not into or planning to go to the Renaissance Faire, creating these tiny journals for the holidays and friends is a peaceful DIY experience that your family will love!
That’s it for this week, friends! Have a great rest of your Monday and an empowered week ahead.
